2016 Student Leadership Events

Recognising our Student Leaders
As part of recognising and affirming students with leadership potential, the Class Leaders’ Installation and Student Leaders Investiture ceremonies are held every year where the Class Leaders, Level Leaders and Student Councillors go up on stage in front of the entire school to receive their badges from the School Leaders. We hope that through their journey in AI, they not only learn how to be better leaders but also better human beings living out the school’s values as a role model to the rest of their peers.

Providing platforms to lead with character
Secondary One Orientation
The Secondary 1 Orientation is a well-loved platform for not only the Student Councillors and Level Leaders but also the CCA Leaders where all come together to welcome the new Secondary 1 students into the AI Family. Through fun games and activities organised and facilitated by the Student Councillors, the Secondary One students are able to bond with others, making new friends and getting accustomed to secondary school life. On the final day of orientation, the CCA Leaders lead the CCA carnival as they try to recruit as many interested members as they can before the much-awaited campfire night led by the Student Council Executive Committee where the students get to see the true AI spirit being kept alive with the lighting of the torch.

National Day Celebrations
What better way to celebrate our Nation’s birthday than having our very own Student Leaders step out of their comfort zones and lead the entire school in our favourite National Day songs! With them planning the actions and simple dance steps to the songs before the event, they were able to get the crowd singing along during the celebrations with them which is no easy feat.

Opportunities to give back to others through service
Service Learning
With our mission to provide opportunities for our Student Leaders to serve through character and leadership, we carry out the Student Leaders Service Learning Project every year for students to go through the training and thinking of identifying the needs of the school or community and serving these needs with humility and gratitude realising that they are blessed in more ways than one.

Teachers' Day
Care and gratitude are two of our school values and the Student Leaders get to demonstrate this especially during Teachers’ Day when they work together with the Class Leaders to compile messages of gratitude from the students to their teachers.

Graduation Night
Level Leaders work together with the Student Leadership Teacher Mentors and the Secondary 4/5 Assistant Year-Head team to organise and carry out Graduation Night for their seniors. It is an opportunity to give the Secondary 4/5 students a night to remember and cherish their moments with their friends in AI. It marks the end of their secondary school life and so the Level Leaders work hard to come up with the video montage of the graduating classes as well as interview the teachers for a nostalgic night for the seniors.

Little Green Moments
A committed group of voluntary Environmental enthusiasts work together with the Level Leaders to organise different green initiatives in AI in order to encourage a more caring and considerate school community. Operation Cleanup, Classroom Cleanliness Checks and the Recycling Competition are school-wide initiatives which encourages the school population to be responsible for the environment around them. Green Day is an event organised and facilitated by the Level Leaders for the Secondary 1 students to learn about the environment through games as well as conduct a community outreach where they speak to residents on the importance of recycling and collect their recyclables.
